Star's Chosen Charities

Star hold a number of charitable events throughtout the year. For the first year we have decided to select 3 charities that will receive the proceeds from any regional events during 2008.

Each region has selected a charity that they wish to support and donate to on a regular basis:

Gloucester Region - Motor Neurone Disease

The Motor Neurone Disease is dedicated to working on behalf of and supporting everyone diagnosed with MND.  They are the unique authority on the disease and have established a powerful reputation among medical professionals, local, regional and national politicians, individual and corporate supporters and of course people living with MND and their loved ones.

In the UK alone, some 5,000 people are living with MND. Currently there is no cure, no treatment and no hope for a long-term future. The charity aims to raise £15 million to advance specific knowledge of MND, develop therapeutic strategies and improve treatments.  Star, Gloucester want to help end the fight against MND.

Manchester region - Claire house childrens hospice

Claire House a local charitable organisation that provides respite, palliative and terminal care to over 230 very ill children and their families, whose ages range from birth to 23 years.  The Hospice has a specialised Care Team and excellent facilities offering a home from home environment for the children and families, who enjoy special quality time together.  Allowing to play, develop, grow amid safe, happy and supportive surroundings is also important.

Claire House does not receive any government of NHS funding and needs £2 million a year to meet its costs. This is where Star, Manchester want to help by raising money for this charity by holding regular events throughout 2008.  Watch this space as there will be some exciting and even dangerous events that Manchester will be taking part in to help raise money for this worth while cause.

London region - National Asthma Charity

Asthma UK is the charity dedicated to improving the health and well-being of the 5.2 million people in the UK whose lives are affected by asthma.  They work together with people with asthma, health professionals and researchers to develop and share expertise to help people increase their understanding and reduce the effect of asthma on their lives.  Their vision is 'control over asthma today, freedom from asthma tomorrow'.
